  11. phenomenon, which is, if not quite 
  12. new, then at least far from as old 
  13. as the scene itself. 
  14. Yes, as the more perceptive readers
  15. might have guessed, I'm thinking about
  16. groups like Mono and Phase Distortion
  17. (and quite a few others), which
  18. release a lot of modules (and usually
  19. only the modules, no musicdisks etc.)
  20. onto the unsuspecting scene, archived
  21. with only a file_id.diz and a textfile
  22. or two to explain about the module and
  23. the group.
  24. To put in other words, this is a »CL1:new
  25. scene trend».
  26. I think that at least the more active
  27. sceners & scenesses among you have 
  28. seen these archives, but anyhow, for 
  29. those of you who have not, I can tell
  30. that the modules are usually in some
  31. sort of techno style. eg. trance, goa,
  32. acid, jungle etc. etc., and made by
  33. musicians who, at least when it comes
  34. to Mono, are quite well known in the
  35. scene (names like SuperNao, Vim!,
  36. Yolk, Hollywood, Substance, Mortimer
  37. Twang certainly ring a bell in most 
  38. sceners' heads I think... Or what?).
  39. But these groups does not only release
  40. modules from the musicians from their

  64. for Phase Distortion).
  65. But of course the big question is why
  66. they do it, after all you might as
  67. well just spread the module normally
  68. or get it released in some production?
  69. Or are there just too many musicians 
  70. (or too few coders & graphicians) on
  71. the scene to make this happen?
  72. Or is it because that the musicdisk 
  73. as a genre has almost died out these
  74. days? (which is incredibly sad, since
  75. I know that there are many musicians
  76. out there who have some brilliant 
  77. stuff just waiting to be released)
